PAINTING
CURRENT WORK
My paintings explore my inner struggles with isolation and cultural pressure during adolescence. In this portfolio, I use oil paint and experiment with dramatic colors to generate a distinct mood. Growing up in a traditional Chinese family, I've been taught that "Xiao," respect for elders, is the key virtue for a young woman. Therefore, obeying the elders in the family, I sometimes feel like my future has been planned out and no one is interested in my feelings.
Painting is my outlet for self-expression, and I wish I could offer my viewers some consolation though my work.
The Bathroom, 2021
In this five-piece series, The bathroom, I used the bathroom and the bathtub as the main setting. I believe that bathroom is an intimate space where people are free to express their emotions, a sanctuary. Water, on the other hand, symbolizes vulnerability. I want to place my models in this particular space to depict the insecurity we face as teenagers.

THIRTY THREE, 2023
These six pieces continue the theme of the transition to adulthood. I try to depict the emotions such as confusion, rebellion, isolation, being lost, and heartbreak.
